It is time to register the sleds! We will have at least one weekend of good sledding. A foot or more is here, and the trails had been open before the big melt. The temperature during the snow was in the high 20's, so the snow is good for packing down. Once the club grooms the trails, all should be pretty nice. The ice appears safe, and has been since before Christmas. It was expose to a lot of cold while bare - so should be solid except in the normal spots.

The MSC trails and Corridor 15 are groomed. We packed right after the snow and have been dragging since.
Have fun out there and be safe! |

I hate to bring it up but I'm hearing the "R" word in next week's Tuesday/Wednesday weather discussions. Go get it while you can!

Yes, a LITTLE rain wouldn't do much harm. http://forecast.weather.gov/product....&highlight=off BY TUESDAY ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM WILL APPROACH FROM THE WEST. THERE IS SOME DISAGREEMENT AMONG THE MODELS ON HOW TO HANDLE THIS SYSTEM. THE GFS TRACKS PRIMARILY A NORTHERN LOW ACROSS THE GREAT LAKES AND THROUGH SOUTHERN CANADA. THE ECMWF AND GEM SHOW THIS FEATURE AS WELL BUT ALSO DEVELOP A SIGNIFICANT SOUTHERN STREAM LOW WHICH GETS PULLED NORTHWARD ALONG THE EAST COAST TUESDAY NIGHT AND PASS TO THE WEST OF OUR AREA. IN EITHER CASE...IT IS EXPECTED THAT SOUTHERLY FLOW WILL BE STRONG ENOUGH TO BRING IN WARMER AIR AND CAUSE A CHANGE IN PRECIPITATION TYPE FOR AT LEAST THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE AREA. WITH ENOUGH COLD AIR LINGERING AT THE SURFACE IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THERE MAY BE A PERIOD OF SNOW CHANGING TO FREEZING RAIN EARLY ON TUESDAY BEFORE TEMPERATURES WARM UP ENOUGH FOR A CHANGE OVER TO ALL RAIN. IF THE SCENARIO ENVISIONED BY THE ECMWF/GEM MODELS UNFOLDS THEN THE TRACK OF THE SOUTHERN LOW WILL NEED TO BE MONITORED. WITH A MORE INTENSE LOW MOVING NEAR THE COAST...PRECIPITATION COULD BE HEAVIER. ALSO...IF THE TRACK OF THIS LOW IS FURTHER TO THE EAST THAN CURRENTLY PROJECTED THEN IT COULD CHANGE THE EXPECTED PRECIPITATION TYPE TO MOSTLY SNOW. BUT FOR NOW...THE BEST FORECAST ESTIMATE IS FOR SNOW CHANGING TO FREEZING RAIN AND RAIN ON TUESDAY...POSSIBLY LINGERING INTO TUESDAY NIGHT. AREAS FURTHER NORTH MAY NEVER FULLY TRANSITION TO RAIN. |

Just rode from Suissevale to Skelly's then from Skelly's to Ambrose cove over the lake to the power-line trail to Salmon Meadow Cove then back down the power-line on to the lake then over the lake to the Suissevale beach. Conditions are really pretty good. I've seen the power-line trail in much worse shape at mid-season than it is right now. It's actually good and not bumpy. The lake is awesome with all the fresh powder just be really careful for obvious reasons. The bays and coves are pretty frozen up, I would shy away from larger open areas. There are bobhouses in most bays. There are several in the Suissevale/Ambrose Cove area. There are bobhouses in Center Harbor and Meredith Bay. Those bobhouses are not very far out. The tracks from Weirs to Meredith looked unridden when I drove by in my truck. The Meredith Trail from the lake looked unridden as well. That was as of 12:30pm Friday.
Have fun and be safe. |
