To be clear what I looked into was a battery system that would power my house in the event the power went down in addition to being used when the solar is not producing enough energy; it was a pretty substantial system

Yes, but that was only for the fridge and water pump, right?

The systems being proposed by NHEC would essentially replace whole-house power during peak times—that's almost certainly the limitation to size as it looks like the peak period is ~4 hours.

Yes - I blended my answer. I looked into a whole house system for my primary residence where I have solar panels. Based on the information I learned, I looked into and bought a smaller, portable (and much cheaper) battery pack for the camp primarily for the water pump and refrigerator.
