Origins of the name Sophie C
So, last night we welcomed Weirs Cat into the family (Weirs Dog isn't as happy as Weirs Kids and Weirs Girl about it ) and decided on the name Sophie C in homage to our recent excersion on her namesake. This got me to thinking, does anyone know where did the Sophie C and Doris E get their names from?

Hi Weirs guy... I can't help you with the origin of the name of the Sophie C, but hope that the cat doesn't "wake you" like its namesake does

A search of the Forum should bring up an old thread about the subject.

I have a book called Postmaster of the Lake, Lake Winnipesaukee, NH By Bruce Heald, 1971. In it is this paragraph about the Sophie C. <

Thanks guys for the info. I guess now it does ring a bell, but my past love afair with the lakes history is slipping into middle age.
And no worries Lakegeezer, she does a fine job of waking us up in the middle of the night!

Speaking of memory...
While on the subject of the tour boats and names, does anyone remember or know who christened the Mount II? Hint: She was a freshman at UNH Additional hint, for those enjoy a little history: http://www.lwhs.us/steam-mtwashhistory.htm
