Actually Tis that is incorrect. WMTW-TV was broadcasting on an assigned analog channel that was being eliminated when the FCC mandated the conversion to digital channels a number of years ago. Their new assigned digital channel (45) did not have the same reach as their older higher powered analog channel, and would have been severely attenuated in the greater Portland area, their largest market. The owner chose to build a new tower in southwestern Maine that would allow the proper penetration into the Portland market.

Sorry for the long winded explanation!
