Saw 3 big planes buzz over the Laconia airport today around 1:00
I know there were posts here before about these planes but what exactly are they doing up this way? Anyone know? |

I noticed those three airplanes too. At approximately 12:49-pm today, what looked like three C-130, 4-propeller cargo or tanker planes, colored dark green flew in a line from south to north between Timber & Governors Isl and up over the passage between Bear and Horse Islands.
At the time, I was down the end of my dock in the brite mid-day sun, feeding some cheese-its to a canada goose (it loves cheese-its) that shows up this time of year......and seeing the three planes sort of flying toward me....I took off my baseball cap and started waving it around at the 3-planes.....and lo & behold...the second plane seemed to dip its left wing down and up in response as it flew past me....no-fool'n! These were some large military planes! So's, how about that......and anchors away.......ppppfffftttt! http://www.theaviationzone.com/image...cules/main.asp Flying at maybe 1000' and looking just like this in a dark dull green with shades of black!

If they were C-130s and they were green, they weren't U.S. Navy (or Marine Corps, for that matter).

I just left the Wal-Mart parking lot and a large, gray, 4 prop, military plane was landing. Flew right over me. Impressive.

This is a group that has a number of vintage war crafts. They fly in and out of the airport.

If they are C-130's they most likely belong to the Rhode Island Air National Gaurd's 143d Airlift Wing C-130's out of Quonset Point Air National Guard Station. C-130's can do short take off and landings and Laconia Airport would be a piece of cake for a C130 to accomplish this.

In another thread I thought we solved the reason why these C-130's were flying over the Lake. Wasn't it to refuel the Blackhawk with the SAR markings on it that flew constantly over a forum members property. It was driving him crazy.

I was right near Round taking some pictures of the Bald Eagles that have a nest on Round when the three planes flew over..
Quick snapshot. It was taken at 12.48.

Three of those flew over us (300' + -) on Alton Bay ice fishing this past winter. But they had "Navy" under the wing tips.

I've been fishing pretty much every day since its been nice. My docks face south so I notice planes landing at Laconia. These 3 planes land almost daily at aprox. 1pm. I set my alarm today for 12:45 just to pay extra attention. There they were, like a scheduled flight, landing at Laconia again today. A few times, immediately after they land, I've driven to the airport to see them and they are nowhere to be found. I'm only 5 minutes away so I can only guess they are doing touch and goes. I think I'll fish Lily Pond tomorrow and figure out if my guess is correct. They're probably training daily?

yeah they're probably doing pattern work (touch and goes). i've never done pattern work at the laconia runway, but i imagine it's a nice, scenic place to do it. most of the pattern work i did looked out over atlantic city and northern nj and ny.

Last evening at about 7:10 pm two C-130s flew over Welch about at a 250 degree heading toward Locke, then veered NW and circled around to approach Laconia Airport runway 08. Then they descended rapidly out of sight but shortly after appeared climbing and heading back toward Welch. I assume that it was a touch and go training for landings in a hostile area. Then they turned NW and flew out of the area. I was not able to see if they were Navy or AF.
Several nights ago at about 3 am we heard a multi engine turbo prop plane(s) on the same low flight path over Welch. |
