Default Psyched-for the 21st year in a row....

Time to pack up the family vehicle tomorrow and head for Jockey Cove in Wolfeboro-this is the one week of vacation each year we take and have rented the same place for 21 consecutive years. Goals for the week:
-not to get in a car
-kiss the dock upon arrival and departure
-use charcoal grill, not gas grill
-at least three roundtrips to Meredith by boat
-catch and release at least four bass
-Seven mornings in a row to the Yum Yum Shop by boat

The kids (22,20,13) are so funny-the ones in college text me in January and let me know how many days until the lake.

Heaven here I come!!!!!

How bout daily Bailey's visit for seven days!! We are heading up next Friday and have the same exact feelings you do. Amazing. Watch the weather obsessively and anticipating that first swim.

Default Coley...

The first few days of your vacation are going to be perfect weather-wise. Maybe a little chilly for some (high 70's low 80's and sunny until at least Tuesday)!!!

Have a great vacation!

I am hoping they are wrong fo Wednesday Thursday and Friday
saving scattered t-storms, but at 20%, 50%, and then 10%
I would rather them jsut show suns all the way down
I will be soo upset that it has been dry for so long and then the one full week we take it might rain

We need Resident2B and Canis to weight in on this

Please give us the real forecast

Default Heat wave

I was at the lake during the two week heat wave in July, and it was glorious. Returning on August 8th for my next two week leg and can't wait. Keeping fingers crossed about weather. Enjoy your time at the lake, forum members! The thrill of going to the lake never ends.....and I have been there every summer since 1953. Passionate about it; I have to say it defines who I am.

Thank you very much to all of the posters above who love the lake and are celebrating their visits. Thank you for the reminders, because we are so privileged to be able to stay at our lakefront home all year-round,and it's lovely to be reminded of how blessed we are. We appreciate our blessings more than words can say.

My grown children who live out-of-state count the months and days until they come to visit.

Thank you to all the posters who remind those of us who are here all year long, just how fortunate we are.

: - ) ENJOY YOUR VISIT(S)!!!

Hope you have had a wonderful week. The catch and release caught my eye as after church last week, I arrived home to a huge ( I would say longer than a foot) wonderful looking fish on my beach. This happens more frequently that many fishermen out there would think. Not sure how many of the catch and release fish are not too damaged to survive. This fish would have made a great meal for some family!!

Dead fish on the beach SMELL AWFUL. YUCK. Then one has to remove the fish.

Yes, Lucky 1...... I was with Green's Basin Girl and NHEscape. I am the blonde in the group photo with sunglasses and jeans, standing next to Snappy Lady. Sorry I didn't get to meet you! I had to leave directly from the Forum Fest to drive back to New Haven, which was very sad, indeed, after two glorious weeks at the cottage.

Redwing introduced me to NHEscape in 1961. We have all been friends for just about forever!

Default Yup!

I agree with all of you! We feel the exact same way. The lake is magic and even when you're away from here, you can feel the magical spell. It's the mountains framing the lake, it's the islands, it's the beauty of the water, it's the woodsy smell in the air, it's the forever rocks, it's the people having so much fun on the lake and yet it's also the calm and peacefulness. What a treasure it is and what a blessing for all of us who love Lake Winni.

Redwing and Jeanzb1 started me thinking............

What about Kate Smith's "When The Moon Comes Over The Mountain?" How wonderful it is for all of us to see that huge moon over our wonderful lake each summer.

And the mountains ARE PURPLE IN WINTER. I never understood the line, "For purple mountains' majesty" until I saw purple mountains out beyond the white snow on the lake. There were no mountains to see from the rental of my youth. But here........they are so magestic.

And who can forget the call of the loons? For some reason two swam right into shore and one almost walked in the sand this year. Never had that happen before this summer.

And the wonderful bald eagle nest on Blueberry, and then one eagle on the porch roof and another time one on the crab grass. Their wing spread is HUGE. When an eagle flies off, it almost looks like a small plane.

Been coming to the lake since I was a small child and it never ceases to amaze, comfort, inspire and delight me.

Default Lake fest

What I love about this Winni Forum is that we are all passionate about the lake, which makes us all connected on several levels. Nice to have so much in common with such a special group!

Well next year I am going to invite your group over for lobster rolls, swim to the raft and kayak! As you know I am not all that far away from you. Also Redwing and I started coming to the lake at almost exactly the same time. My family stayed just down the lake from you during that time.

I am glad I went to the Forum Fest as it was so much fun to see a face with a name.

Default A pleasure!

Dear Lucky1, What a pleasure it would be to kayak, swim, and enjoy lobster rolls together next summer! NHEscape and I live two doors down from one-another (facing Red Hill to the west, so we see the setting sun), and not far from Green's Basin, and we own kayaks. I look forward to getting together, and thanks for your thoughtful invitation! This will be my first Labor Day weekend away from the lake - ever - which is making me very sad. Have a wonderful weekend, and I'll be thinking of those of you are able to be at our beloved lake this weekend. Redwing

The End of The Year Party and Labor Day will not be the same because Redwing will not be here. Redwing will surely be missed!

Not to worry.................you can still be somewhere else and have a part of your heart here so you have not really missed this Labor Day at the lake. I have had to miss many Labor Days as I had kids who were off to school and needed to be shopping for clothes and getting books etc. Phew, glad that is behind me.

I am sitting here in the non hurricane sunny Saturday thinking I may take out my kayak. Just got back from a neighbor's and a meeting of our association. Whoops, kind of windy for the kayak. Will see. Don't worry on transporting kayaks for our get together next summer. I have some of the Wilderness Pungos.

Never got a message from Green's Basin Girl but sent her a PM yesterday so hope she got it? I am new to this sort of thing but have certainly been able to receive pm's. I sent GBG one and gave her my email and phone so hope she got it.

Happy Labor Day. I happen to have a brother who joined a gal who had three little ones and is helping raise the gang. Small world as one is a freshman at Yale!! They are a Florida family so do not know the lake. My brother has allergies and doesn't like lakes for breathing. Can't blame him for that. Breathing is a must! Enjoy the day as it is not coming again. Really love the lake and also love this Forum. I found a name for a flatbed tow FROM THE FORUM MEMBERS and will have that done Tuesday. MAB
