Greetings!
First time poster...I grew up in SW NH but live in Virginia now. My wife an I are hoping to spend 3-4 days in the Lakes Region this summer when visiting relatives. I searched the forum but did not find any info regarding Center Harbor Inn. Would any of you Winnie Gurus have an opinion as to this establishment's lodging facilities. We are not looking for anything fancy...just something on/near the lake and clean. Other recommnedations are welcomed. Thanks so much! Matt |

when a tree fell on my cabin rendering it uninhabitable. i needed to stay in the area to coordinate the rebuild.. it was fine. Very "motel-like", ie it could be a motel 6 anywhere - once you're inside and don't experience the waterside setting. it was clean enough. i do recall a lot of noise coming through from guests on the upper floor (i was on a lower level), so i presume the space between floors isn't well insulated acoustically. if a hotel is what you want, then this is OK. an alternative would be a private cabin or one of the cottage colonies (lodges) that are in the area. These offer more of an "On Golden Pond"-type experience. Whatever floats your boat...

Hi Matt
I rented a room there last week for my father (my wife & I were staying aboard our boat and he wanted a bit more privacy). I found it quite acceptable; the room was clean and decent, there is a nice lawn area with chairs, a small beach, and docking for guests' boats. Silver Duck |

Center Harbor Inn is perfectly OK. On the plus side, it's got a nice little sandy beach, boat docks can be rented overnight (if there are any available), docking for picking up and discharging passengers is available and it's centrally located.
Its more of a motel than a hotel... by that I mean that all rooms open out to balconies or walkways, no services like bell hops or anything. In the past few years they have upgraded things like furniture, carpeting and drapes. But I think the bathrooms are old. New owners or managers in the past couple of years have done a lot of upgrades. As these kinds of places go it's perfectly servicable. We've rented rooms there on various occasions over the past few years for friends and family visiting us (we'd be staying overnight on our boat). If you're looking for more of a hotel there are 4 or so super hotels in downtown Meredith. None really have beaches or access to the lake although they are right near it. but they have excellent restaurants and are in the town so that you can walk places. Hope that helps. |

Thanks to each of you for your responses! Sounds like CHI will do just fine for us (assuming availability). As long as it is clean, it works for us. After all, we will likely just spend evenings after dinner there. Much of the day will be out supporting the Lakes Region Tourism and taking in the views.
Thanks again! Matt |
