Young Snorkeler Tips

Hi, all! My 8-year-old son LOVES snorkeling off the beach, so I'm thinking of taking him to snorkel off the boat somewhere. We went to Steamboat last year, but it was too choppy to hang around. Anyone have suggestions for us (preferably in the north of the lake)?
