Friday storms

I’m sitting in the middle of the Friday storms. I lost power for a short time in the beginning. Watched the waves on Lake Wentworth go to about 5 feet and swamp some boats tied at dock. Then the rain and hail came so hard that the visibility was about a foot.
I watched the radar weather on wundergound and the color went to purple (extreme) for the lake pass by. The violence took down a few tree branches. None got my house. Through all this I looked at the web cams but snake eye and some others stopped recording at 5:30. The storm was at 5:45-6:00. It would be nice if the cams stayed up until sunset.
Wolfeboro webs were not working but Brookwoods showed the waves on the beach.
It looks like we might get another line of them.

We were out on a boat float when it started coming it. Thankfully I had read online that there might be violent storms so as soon as we saw the black clouds, we booked for home.

My only regret is that I was too busy covering the boats and making sure they were safe, preventing me from grabbing my camera. It was one of the most impressive cloud fronts I've ever seen come into the lakes (Unfortunately, that now covers a LONG time period)

The wind went from nothing to violent in less than a minute!

Here in Alton we had very strong winds, thunder/lightening and tropical like downpours as well as a lot of marble sized hail. Wild! In the midst of it all, the clouds opened and blue sky peaked through ever so briefly!

Snake Eyes is down because there is no power on the island. The summer hours are dawn to dusk... about 9pm in the summer.

We recorded a wind gust of 60 mph here in West Alton at 5:27 PM during the worst part of today's storm, and we had sustained winds of 30 - 50 mph for almost 20 minutes. We have some minor tree limb damage, but we're not aware of any major damage in our neighborhood. We didn't lose power.

I'm in Southeastern NH (Exeter area) and had high winds about the same time as FLBoater -- wind must be all over the state tonight! It's still windy but no rain yet, I'm very glad we're not out on Bear (the name of our boat) this evening! (I think! lol)

The lady at the Electric Co-op told me many islands are having power trouble tonight and it isn't likely they will be back online until tomorrow.

Their recording states that much of Moultonboro, Center Harbor, Sandwich, Tuftonboro, Melvin Village and Thornton are without electricity.

The power was out on Moultonboro Neck until about 9:45. We figured out how to cook pizza by using the gas grill as an oven. Winds were strong, but nothing like reported down in Alton. The cable internet went up and down a bit after the power came back, and there was an additional power glitch but all seems to be stable now.

We just returned from picking up our boys from camp, Belknap on north side of Wolfeboro (actually Tuftonboro). There are trees down everywhere! The tree damage at the camp was extensive and the kids were helping clear debris all night and morning. They also lost a lot of power lines from falling trees.

I believe the 60 mph wind report. Our deck furniture was blown to the end of our deck, large limb fell, a lot of smaller branches and twigs all over the yard and many "bumps" as branches hit the roof. Never saw any hail and we were fortunate not to lose our power - very scary though.

The boaters must have heeded warnings as we did not observe the usual last minute boater trying to get off the lake. Hope everyone was safe.

I've never seen a storm like this here (maybe the microburst 10+ years ago). Torrential rain, hail the size of marbles, but the wind was something else - because JL's upper level sits at the top of the hill, we seem to get a ramped-up version of the wind. A big tree fell in front of the "farmhouse" across the grass from my condo but its largest limb fell to the left of their car and its main trunk fell to the right of the car and the car was enveloped in branches and leaves. They moved the car today and it had some scratches and a small dent but that was it. We also had another tree pulled out of the ground about 50 feet away and one down at the lower level and limbs here and there. Heard that the Neck Road was tied up for hours as a tree had gone down across it - last night heard there was a 62 car backup, then heard later that traffic was tied up all the way to Meredith. Also heard that for the people marooned in back of the tree that people in golf carts and cars rode down to give people (strangers) rides - isn't it great when people pull together in adversity. Jojo's Store said they got power back at 10 but up at JL, we didn't get it back until 4 am (11 hours outage). Union Leader reported Moultonborough was hardest hit. I will never forget two very very violent wind gusts in that storm - I really thought the roof was coming off. Somebody said that they thought the wind reached 75 mph on the island. Well, we got through it but Mother Nature does humble us at times, doesn't she!!!!

During the worst of the storm, my boys and I watched in amazement as the Doris E (I think - might have been the Sophie C) was moving backwards trying to get past Stonedam Island on the way to the Weirs or Meredith. The captain eventually turned away towards Governor's Island and moved into safer water.

We had a tree go inito our cottage on Mirror Lake, and our neighbor has extensive damage. Unbelievable site. Luckily, we have a great friend who started cutting out the trees while we were driving from PA. I'll post pictures to the photopost.

I am most thankful that noone was hurt.

We were at the Half MoOn Friday and the security alarm got stuck for 2 hours with annoying noise that made us stay on the balcony, we found out the lightning fried the security system and the only way they got it off was by going to the box in our room and clipping the wires and also power went out in VIP auto in Laconia while we were in there about 525pm Friday.
