We've used them for the last three years.. best wood we have ever had.
Burns to a very fine ash.. this stuff is really dry. They deliver to Gilford, so my
bet is they would deliver to West Alton.

IG - I actually did cut down a tree and it's now stacked next to our garage, but it's too green for this winter. It will keep us warm next winter, though.

We have used John for virtually all the time we have lived in Alton, over 15 yrs+. We get our wood green in the spring, and it sits on our driveway for the summer and bakes...and bakes .....and bakes... til I put it away. We get 5 cords from him each year. I get mine cut to 16 inches, and every one is within a quarter of an inch of that size.

Don't know if he has any seasoned left, but give him a call, and you can tell him I gave you his name.

Fire wood availability and prices are something that can change from year to year. What I would find more helpful is if people were to post what prices they are getting per cord. This can vary from area to area, and depends on what you are getting. But the information would help in evaluating best options.

NH department of Agriculture Weights & Measures STATES! That firewood MUST be sold by the cord ora "FRACTION of a cord"

What fraction of a cord does a "pick up" hold? does he have a short bed, long bed or a home made bed?
Buy the pickup load and then call the cops.

they are camp wood....can you imagine how many thousands of dollars would be spent if you drove around and got 5 cords of wood (my winter usage) at $3 per bundle...

I seriously thought about getting one and cutting and splitting the wood myself. But then I thought about climbing up on the pile with my trusty chain saw, trying to cut the wood and not my leg, then splitting it, stacking it and finally putting it away.

I came to the conclusion that I liked golf and boating a lot better. I also like the fact that my wood comes to me cut to 16 inch length, split, and stacked in two two cord mounds and one one cord mound on my driveway.

Not sure about a grappling load. My wood guy said that the RSA was designed to get the people who would sell a "cord" of wood to be consistent in their cord. The usual convention was 4'x4'x8' is a cord. Many people were selling a "cord" of wood, but it was a face cord...not 4' deep and a price that was not that much less than a full cord. Consumer protection type reg, I guess.

Buying firewood reduces itself to two options, 1), you can buy wood, stack it yourself, and see how accuratly it relates to an official cord, or, 2), you can trust your supplier and go on with the rest of your life. Personally, I try to establish a relationship with any trade I do business with so I can use method #2, it makes life so much nicer.

My wood gets stored in a 12'x10' shed. I have full faith in my supplier, and also know how many rows it takes to store 5 cords. (it is just about 7 rows )
Your option 2 is the great option..when you have a great relationship with your supplier, it is so nice to pick up the phone in the spring, tell him I need 5 cords of green. A few weeks later, I get a call from him, or see him in town, and he says same price as last year, and I'll probably start next (insert the day). He does two cords one day, two the next, and 1 the third day. I can mail him the check, or if we happen to be there, we hand it to him. No problems either way. Forget a contract...don't even need a handshake...man's word is good enough. Ahh, the good old days!

When you do business with M&M you do not have to go through all the info that you have listed above as he has so many regular customers to supply he doesn't need to do all that advertising. Excellent company/person to do business with like it has been noted in below threads.

I normally buy green firewood a year ahead of time. But with construction and this being our first, full winter here, find myself needing a few, dry cords to get through the rest of the winter.

We see trucks for A1 Firewood on Rt 153 all the time. As they are close to us, I'm going to give them a call. Anyone here have any experience with them?

If you strike out check out Providence Firewood. $300 a cord and it is all kiln dried. Regardless of what someone says it is going to be tough to get actual seasoned firewood especially with the cold year we are having.

I have a neighbor who sells firewood and claims it is seasoned. Trouble is it sits in log lengths and there is no way wood is going to be dry when it sits in log lengths until it is cut, split and delivered all the same day. He does not pre-cut & split any of his firewood.
Hardwood can take up to a full 2 years to become dry. I'm burning wood that was cut 2 summers ago and it still has moisture in the pieces I did not split.

Unfortunately like heating oils, the firewood people tend to mark prices up as the temperature goes down and winter drags on.
We started using one of our fireplaces to help with the heat. Even though it isn't using the same flu as the one we had the fire in last year I'm still leery. I've been going out on my property and cutting down standing dead tree's.

After finally getting over the sticker shock of needing to buy cord wood for the first time (dropped, cut and split my own in prior home), I called M&M based on the recommendations here. John called back and said he was out of seasoned for the season. He'll restart delivering green cords in mid-March.

I answered my own question above when I called A1. Tim delivered 2 cords of seasoned hardwood last week. I've been burning it for a week now and it is great wood, dry and uniformly cut. I've now stacked most of it and I received a very healthy 2 cords.

He delivered on the day after it rained last week. Our road in had not yet been sanded and was an ice skating rink. I was surprised he came in, and he got stuck a few times going out. But he was friendly and professional throughout. I'd order from Tim again without hesitation.
