As a lakefront owner and year round resident my initial reaction is to join Romney's coalition against this inane idea. No one knows how increasing the lakefront are would effect the topography or overall beauty of the lake-not to mention the value of existing properties. What a dumb ass shortsighted idea!

I don't log in here as often as I'd like to, but I'm glad I did this morning. Thanks for the laugh.

What will happen to Wolfeboro Bay and town docks? From pictures show seems to me it will be under water.

Shortsighted
Leave it go government bureaucrats to mess up a simple proposal like this.
What they should do is increase the size of the lake up to the level of Route 171. With that great expanse of open water there would be no more need for speed limits and no-wake zones. Plus Castle in the Clouds would have a spectacular rope swing! |

A better idea - Build a walking path totally around the lake at waters edge. Would be a huge tourist attraction.

Boating Hazard Removal
There's a rumor that the state is considering picking selected rocky boating hazards and blowing them up in order to make more of the lake navigable.

Not recent, but not a new deal either. My 1962 chart shows two red and a black spar at the east end of the Hole in the Wall. A current chart shows only a red spar. The rocks were removed. Don't know if blasting was involved. Marine Contractors used to mine places like the Witches to get breakwater materials.

Witches Blasting
The blasting at the Witches was done to create a wine cellar for the B & B that is going to be built there. 🦇 🏩

Well maybe, but with the new water levels the summit of Rattlesnake may be the only viable spot for a new B&B. I have heard rumors of strange lights up there, maybe surveyors working at night.
