looking for a great campsite
I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a great campsite on Lake Winnipesaukee for this summer. We'll be camping with tents, and would like to camp next to the lake if possible....and the more secluded the better. Also, being close to any hiking trails would be great!
thanks!! |

There is the Long Island Bridge campground. Not what I would call secluded.

I'm not sure that you will be able to find a lakefront campsite on the BIG lake. (Although that Long Island Bridge Campground looks pretty nice) This place looks nice... GREENTOPS CAMPGROUND and has access to the lake with a marina right next door.
There's also WILEY BROOK CAMPGROUND and WOLFEBORO CAMPGROUND which look very nice, but are not right on the lake. If hiking is a priority, GUNSTOCK would be the place to hang out. Nice sites and all hiking trails in the Belknaps are accessible from there. Check out the interactive site map. Mountain Biking too! It's not on the lake but ELLACOYA STATE BEACH is right down the road. Good Luck! |

Long Island Bridge - righ on the lake...
but NOT secluded! The tenting sites are right on the water but are also right on the main road - and it is a very noisy road. (We lived on the road up on the island.) The speed limit through the Marina and Campground areas is 20 mph, and is striclty enforced, but that doesn't make the sounds of motorcycle engines and trucks, etc... any less noisy - Not too mention the cruisers and cig boats who chug through the channel to get gas at Trexlers. Its basically a trade off - on lake - but not secluded - or OFF lake and very secluded....like Harbor Hill in Meredith on route 25.

Campground between Ellacoya & West Alton ?
There used to be a small campground between Ellacoya RV Campground (State Park) and West Alton... last year it appeared that some work was being done there to clear brush, etc? Does anyone know the name of it... and if it is open for business this year?

Pinewoods Campground
Pinewoods campground on Moultonboro Neck Road (about 6 miles from Greens Corner) is a very nice campgound. We put our trailer there for two years until we built a home in the area. The transient side of the campground is real woodsy. It is not right on the lake but the campground abuts Kona Wildlife Mgmt area and there are trails which take you right to Braun Bay and wonderful beach area. This is a well-run campground and well worth the visit.
