Hiking in Alton area
Hi all -
If I remember correctly there is supposed to be good areas to hike in and/or around Alton. Nothing crazy - does anyone know of decent 2-4 mile trails that aren't verticle? Thanks! |

There is a great trail map of the Belknap Range created by Dave Roberts, copies in the Alton Gilman library and the Gilford library.
In Alton, the Mt Major Brook trail is a gradual assent and short of the top, you can take the right fork over to Straightback Mt, great views and you may be alone! From Mt. Major parking lot start on main trail but at about 1/2 mile go straight rather than left on the main assent trail. For other hikes, see the Roberts map, and take a compass. |
