Mosquito Joe
Wondering if anyone in the area has used this service? Seems interesting and could certainly help me enjoy my backyard a little more especially at night.

I have a lot of wooded areas in front and behind my property. Tried to stay outside all week last week by the fire pit and sprayed several times and nothing worked. I will report back when I receive so more feed back

Last week I had to walk my dog with a hooded sweat shirt in that 90 degree heat just to keep the dear flies from biting me. |

I use InsectShield socks and similar pants, shirts and hats when needed with deet on exposed skin. It generally takes care of anything that might otherwise be interested in feeding on me.

Mosquitoes are bad, but I'd be very worried about covering everything in the yard in a toxic compound. Also, if you're on the water, the runoff is going into the lake. I know their website says it's "safe", but this stuff is never tested as thoroughly as most people would like for their own use.
From their website: "Pyrethroids are hazardous to fish. As a result, our technicians are trained to avoid fish ponds when providing you with a barrier spray treatment. Our products do not affect swimming pools; nevertheless, our technicians are also trained to not allow the spray to contact the pool water." |

Effective
We started using this service in MA before moving to Alton permanently. While we had mosquitos our primary purpose was we experienced an explosion in the tick population. We found the service to be very effective. Eliminated both mosquitos and ticks. We started using the service here and it is equally effective, BUT our property is not on the water. If we were right on the lake, I'm not sure I'd use the service.

Thank you for the feed back. I’m going to take give them a try. I have water view but not near the water so I don’t have to worry about affecting the lake. Sent from my iPhone using Winnipesaukee Forum mobile app |

They’re running rampant at my house too... A little tip to keep deer flies off you when mowing or moving around your property on equipment like a rider or tractor: Get some of those bright blue plastic drink cups (they come in red or blue) Fix a wooden grade stake to your equipment with wire ties and staple the blue cup upside down to the top of the stake. Find some “Tanglefoot” (I bought my local hardware out before Aubuchon took over) you can probably find some on Amazon if your hardware store doesn’t carry it) Get a paint stirrer stick and spread the Tanglefoot all over the cup’s blue surface. Go mow or whatever you have to do and he deer flies will actually fly right to the cup and of course get stuck and die. They love to attack moving objects and the color blue so that’s what they do! You’ll thank me when you try it! |
