Thumbs up Vanity Plates

This came to me as I was driving yesterday. Does anyone have vanity plates from NH or otherwise that make reference to the lake? I do. Let see how many creative members are out there... I will start, mine reads WINPSKE

Default Vanity plates

That's a very good question ! In my travels I have seen plates on out of state vehicles making mention of something in New Hampshire. I live in Wolfeboro so I am more apt to see a plate trying to say Wolfeboro than some other NH connection. I have seen CT, VA, NY, MA, PA, FL trying to say Wolfeboro in some configuration. I can honestly say I haven't seen any attemps at Lake Winni (I can't spell Winnipesaukee), but now I will be on the look out.

Default Funny you should ask . . .

My kids and I made a game of keeping track of license plates this summer to pass the time as we drove. At first, we just kept a list of what state's people came from. After a while, though, we started adding unusual vanity plates. Here are a few of the lake ones:

YUMYUM
FUNSPOT
WNIPSKE
LAKWIN
LAKWIN
LK-WINN
NJ 2 NH (a Jersey plate obviously)

By the way, mine (from NJ) is ECHO PT. It can be seen far and wide all over Alton Bay in August each summer.

I believe Big Lake is already used locally in the Alton area.

Hi Jersey Girl,

My 2 plates say ECHOPT and 2ECHOPT. But they refer to a place on Winnisquam not Winnipesaukee. Cool coincidence though

BAYSIDE, BAY and SIDE are all taken plates. I know that BAY and SIDE were the plates Jessie Rogers had back in the early 60's for the Bay Side Motel now Bay Side Inn, Alton Bay. Wonder if the Inn has BAYSIDE now. I have seen the other ones on their vehicles.

I'm pretty sure I recall reading that New Hampshire has the largest number of vanity plates, relative to number of registered vehicles, in the country.

Saw 2 new plates in Salem and Londonderry today.

DVR-DWN (thought of Grant) and WAKE49 (SUV bought in Tilton)
Both were NH plates.

NH is one of the few states that duplicates the plate "number" on different playe types. You can get a "regular" plate with that "ECHOPT" and get a "Conservation" or other special logo plate, with "ECHOPT" on it also.

A few more riddles for you all.

The owner of this tag might have been a fan of a certain musician, accordionist, bandleader, and television impresario who hosted an epynominous TV show from 1955 to 1982.

A1 AN A2

This one's straightforward. But what's remarkable about the arrangement of the letters. (Think 'Bob' or 'Hannah' or the first name of the man who unified the German principalities in the 1800s):

ATOYOTA

Guess the hair color of this vehicle's owner:

AU YLOKS

The plate's simply "Wunnerful, Wunnerful".
{HINT : and a 1 and a 2 ... and I think the plate was the impresario's himself}

The best one I've seen anywhere was in Meredith.

A snappy looking convertable had the plate BLONDE and it was UPSIDE DOWN (on the front). I thought that was pretty funny!

On topic (this time at least):

I was behind a Cadillac this morning for a short while on Center Street in W'boro. Plate was WINNI.

Myself, I don't have a VP. Honestly, can't even remember the numbers on mine. My mnemonic shortcoming - ironically - is a good way to remember to turn off the headlights when I go into the grovery store.

Saw this on a Caddy from NY.

I had 'BLIP' on my Fiat years ago.

I also saw 'BCNU' and 'BCNU2' around Gilford for a while.

As well as '2GETHER'

Just an FYI for any vets. Both WINNI and WINNIE are available as NH veterans vanity plates.

I hate to say it but 45MPH is available in a regular vanity plate or those of that persuasion

Yes, I was amazed at how easy it was to get the names I wanted on my veteran plates. I have ORION (of course) and VP-16 (my old squadron) on my other vehicle.

Winnie is a taken as a regular vanity plate and according to the NH DMV web site you cannot have the same letter/number combination on another type of NH plate (Veteran, Conservation etc).

Some variations for Alton Bay are still available. Me - I just got my Winnipesaukee.com handle "JSTSLD" on a Veteran vanity plate.

Default two passions

Wife and I have two passions...the lake, and golf.

Her car : PAR-1 (that's an birdie) (and a sweet ol' bird she is)

My car : PAR-2 Veteren plate, that's an eagle, and I was in the USAF, double meaning.

And oh the fun of driving in NH and trying to figure out the plates

A lake one seen in Moultonborough this past weekend - either HRMTCVE or HRMTCV (tough to read as it's going by you).

My friend out in California had a Red Sox related one - MFY1918. This was before 2004 but she's kept it. When she went to the California DMV and asked what it was, she said it stood for My Favorite Year and the 1918 was when her grandfather was born.

Default Double entendre

My Connecticut plate was "BOAT NH", the NH being for both New Haven and New Hampshire.

The best one I’ve seen is NHIS 1 now that’s a cool plate to have.

Default Vanity Plates

To Smith Point: I believe that NHIS 1 belongs to the New Hampshire International Speedway, but I like what I think is your interpretation: New Hampshire is Number One.

I have seen other vanity plates with NHIS followed by a number. But, I like what I think is your reading.

we've lived in NH since 1983 and have had a variety of vanity plates. The best one came when my second son and his friend decided to get "matching" plates. The friend got, "LVFREE" and my son got "OR-DIE." I pointed out to him that perhaps he did not get the best part of that deal. That plate died of natural causes.

NH has instituted something new to the vanity plate request. One has to write a bried description of the meaning of the letters requested. We found this out a few months ago when my husband got new plates for my daughter's car.

Because of some extenuating circumstances, I have been sharing cars for a couple of years with my husband and daughter. A car for me is in the relatively near future; I've been waiting patiently for a car of my very own. I'm wondering if my choice of plate will pass the sniff test when fill out the new form.

There's an App for that.. (well not really an App... a product) and the company I work for distributes it. Sells like crazy! It contains a powder that absorbs and turns to a gel.

The box graphics are perfect... we have all been in that postion!

Maybe I should call on some local marinas and snowmobile shops.

I think going to the marinas is a great idea, given what we saw a woman do off the back platform of her boat yesterday!!!!! (while standing up yet)

At a doctor's appointment in Concord, and parked next to a black Mustang with the NH plate:

FN23YRS

It was obvious that 23YRS = 23 years, but what did FN mean?

I was relieved when the driver said "fun" - I figured the plates were commemorating a divorce or an anniversary.

Rattlesnake Gal, re: your July post about the "AIR4CE1" plate, I work with a guy who has the fraternal twin to that plate, "AIR4CE"; as expected, he's retired USAF.

Last Friday, my wife and I took the day off to get out on the lake on the best day of the weekend and while in Meredith, we spotted "WNPSKE" on a Mercedes C-Class. Anyone know the owner?

Default Kindred Spirits

As I was loading our stuff into our truck at West Alton Marina yesterday afternoon (unfortunately we had just closed the camp for the year) I noticed a kindred spirit parked next to us!

I can understand some of those, but some of them I don't really see what harm they can do. As a matter of fact, I think some of them are funny. Too bad we can't have a sense of humor in this world any more.

I posted above that the DMV wouldn't let me have "FNFUNFN." I wanted "Fun, fun, fun" with a nod to the Beach Boys as the license plate on my convertible. It reminds me of being back in school with the good Sisters of Charity. "It only takes one misbehaved person to ruin it for the whole class."

Default .......... H i s s ............

....here's a good one...... a NH vanity plate ........H I S S........on a 1970's Ford Cobra, bright orange, fastback.....not a Mustang but maybe a Ford Torino Cobra fastback......beauty of a car, baby...... with excellent paint and an awesome sounding carbureted, snake engine under-the-hood, saw it in the Lowe's-Gilford parking lot, yesterday. H I S S must be a reference to the cobra snake sound ......... H I S S

If not for the dog prints, I might have agreed with you, Hilltopper.
I would bet tHat this is an owner of a Cairn Terrier, or maybe they just like piles of rocks!

Upthesaukee, maybe the car owner's name is Karen and she has a Cairn Terrier.

Aren't there rules and regulations about what can be displayed on vanity plates? For example, I thought they reviewed applications and would reject anything that refers to something obscene or offensive.

If that is the case, how did this one get by?

Seen heading north on the Spaulding Turnpike in Dover. New Hampshire plates... I repeat, NH plates, with "YANKEES"

If that isn't obscene, what is?!!!

I wanted FNFUNFN (" Fun, fun, fun") for my new-to-me convertible, and according to NH website it was available. It got kicked back. : (

I got -FUN instead. My husband says it should be interesting if (when) he gets stopped for speeding and the police officer says, "Are we having fun now?!?

Yeah, like that. Or just plain old New England Yankees.

I'm not sure if this vehicle was mentioned earlier, but I was in my non-summer town (not in NH) and walked past a parked truck with the plate "GOVSISL". I waited about 10 minutes for the owner to show up and sure enough he lives part time on Governors
