Have you seen this.....?
Trying to copy and paste. This was in the Globe today. It is a visual explosion of the number of virus cases around the world since 2/24/2020. US was near the bottom of all countries. Then the graph shows how US exploded above every other country to such an extent that we are far exceeding all countries by 40%.in just a short 4-6 weeks. And this is being recognized by some as a the flu season that generally last 6 months. I haven't tried opening this copy but maybe some of you can. It was a presentation by John Hopkins University. It was on the Globe on line copy. Did anyone see it.....?!!! |

Interesting, but I don't know what it means without more info...# of tests, availability of accurate screening, etc. Just need more info

The graph speaks for it self. It appears to be the number of Coronavirus cases vs the rest of the world over a 2 month period. Nothing about testing. It is strictly cases. Maybe the graph didn't show the results. Or maybe the graph to open for you. |

This is a statistic that can be manipulated according to your agenda. The graph is missing vital information. The first thing missing, and maybe the most important is each country's POPULATION. The graph is comparing the amount of positive cases with no mention of population. Do you think it would be relevant to know the US has 330 million people; while Italy has 60 million, Spain 47 million and Germany 83 million?
Also, as mentioned above, testing is important to understand. The more tests performed the more positive cases. This is especially important with such a contagious virus that can be asymptomatic in one and deadly in another. Hopefully we(and the world) are turning the corner. As we see a decline in hospitalizations and deaths we can assume things are improving. |

Another favorite saying of mine is lies, damn lies and statistics. Smart people can manipulate data, create charts and curves, and do most anything to support a position or policy. I prefer to look at the raw numbers. This is a bad flu year, nothing more. I will say that we do not seem to be doing a particularly good job in protecting elderly in nursing homes. How can this be? With all the social distancing, sheltering in place, masks, gloves, etc.? Maybe we're just making it up as we go and nobody has the answers. Just a thought. |

Anyone who believes China's numbers are real is either an ideologue or addled.

Or perhaps, it is negative when you countermand the popular position? Like the California doctors? YouTube admitted it took down the video because it did not support the shelter in place orders. Whether you support what is being done to us or you don't, this should scare all of us. Suppressing free speech and different ideas is not good, regardless of political affiliation.

But it is also scary that these platforms can be manipulated by professional agitators to spread misinformation systematically. They are much more vulnerable to this than traditional media. This technique has been used by the right, the left, and the just plain wrong.

Regardless of the threads? Where are you seeing that in the General Discussion, Boating, Restaurants, Home Cottage or Land Maintenance, History, Wildlife, Pets, Fishing. etc. areas? If you don't like the COVID discussions why not just avoid this one area instead of condemning the entire forum?

The state just to the south of New Hampshire: "Massachusetts suffers a record 252 C-19 deaths on Wednesday, April 29, 2020" ....... google that ...... and it is most likely higher than 252 because that number was reported at 8:41-pm.

Not political at all. These are meaningless numbers.
If you were to factor in each nation's total population, the number of tests performed, accuracy of testing, and accuracy of reporting I'm certain you'd see a totally different picture. |

Numbers are meaningless with out context. How come you posted this in 2 threads?
Think I'm done with this sub-forum. In 17 years the forum, I thought the speed limit debate would never be topped in terms of divisiveness and personal attacks. Go figure. Too bad since relevant information gets lost in the garbage. |

I think it is important to remember that US citizens travel transcontinental for business and pleasure more than any others. Business travel likely was the source/ spreader in many cases.

I would be working on my trailer game now while the ramps are dead. That is not so easy to master Some find the flags helpful for knowing where the trailer is especially when empty (you can always pull the empty trailer and walk it to the water then back the car to it). Short trailers can make even Class A CDL drivers look bad! |
