Default Waldo Pepper's Mini Forum Fest

Since Lobster Rolls will be available as soon as Waldo Peppers opens in a couple of weeks... who wants to come to a mini Forum Fest there?

We can set a date as soon as Pepper can give us a clue as to when she will be open.. Yummy. I can't wait!

I'll pick up Pepper & Waldo at home, and make sure they get there....plenty early...might even help get the lobster rolls ready...a piece for the customers, a piece for me, another piece for the customer, and let's see, that means two for me...

Let's get it ready!!!!

Smile Peppers Forum Festers.....

I had the pleasure of eating one of the last lobster rolls to come out of Pepper's kitchen last Fall.....so I think all would agree I should have the first lobster roll of the coming Spring! OK OK OK I thought I'd try just in case. I just hope the lobsters are ready for an early opening. Hope to see all there!

It would be my distinct pleasure, and indeed honor to play host to a mini forum fest! A perfect opportunity to see so many wonderful friends all at once! I will advise as soon as I'm certain what day we'll reopen. Very much looking forward to seeing all of you - I need my hugs really bad!

And I am ashamed to admit that I've never had the pleasure of tasting one of Pepper's creations since we rarely get to that side of the lake.

But I've been looking for an excuse to get there. Looks like I found one!

When did you say you're putting on that addition?

Welcome, DBA, to the Forum! And thanks for those wonderful Rattlesnake Island ice-out photos.

WOW! This is gonna be FUN!

I'm really looking forward to seeing all my friends again, and especially happy to have an opportunity to meet and feed a few new ones too!

Merrymeeting - we had just a brief introduction last year at Garwoods, so it'll be nice to have a moment to get to know you this time.

DBA - A huge welcome to the forum, and a great big thank you for your fabulous photographs! I can tell already that we're going to be great friends, just by your signature line - what an absolutely perfect definition of peace.

GravyBoat - you bet I'm looking forward to seeing you! We've shared far too much sadness this winter, and it's time to emerge and welcome the joys of spring - don't you think?

SunsetBob - it'll be wonderful to see you, too! I hardly got a chance to speak with you at the forum fest last fall, so it'll be great to see you again!

IslandSib - don't you worry your pretty little head, because we could NEVER forget you!!!!!

DRH - Oh how I would LOVE to put on an addition! I think the landlord might be happy to have a bigger building to charge rent in too, but I doubt the city would be all that cooperative! I do have some wonderfully handy friends, though, so if the opportunity ever arose I know just who to call!

IslandGirl - you're hired!

No worries - my huggers are always in top condition! And there's no such thing as running out of hugs!!!

I'm so excited to see everybody!!!!!!!

Folks driving by will begin to notice a few subtle "signs of life" and those will continue daily! Hopefully we can get the water turned back on Monday sometime, and the phone will be in service again soon too. Propane tank is new and full, parkinglot scrub will be scheduled soon. Food orders are being organized, and I'll be seeing you all before you know it!

This event looks like one for the archives. There are so many great photographers on this site, I hope they take lots of pictures of this historic event and post some on the forum for those of us that wish we were there. How about a live web cam or if Pepper has web access we could have a real time thread. Have a great time.

Smile Mini Fest

There will be more cameras at Pepper's that Saturday than there were at the Red Carpet on Oscar Night!!!

The Stars will be out that day... all decked out in their designer Winnipesaukee.Com shirts and name tags.. What an event....a happening...the lobsters will be fighting for a place in line to get to the steam pot...and if I can say this..Pepper will have her best buns..... (rolls) ready for the lobster roll production line. All the Forum "Folks" need to be there...or be square.

I doubt that any limo's will show up....but is there a chance there will be valet parking or a shuttle bus to ferry folks from parking lots around the Weirs Beach area? Will there be a need for crowd control?...something to think about....But back to the camera question....

I'll have my Nikon and a tripod and I know "IG" will have her camera and there will be many others....this will surely be one of the most "photographed" events since the Teutul's showed up at Bike Week with their Fire Bike. This may rival Teddy Roosevelt's visit to the Weirs in 1902.....and he didn't get hugs and lobster rolls from Pepper....or did he? I don't know, I wasn't there!! If there were tickets for this thing....scalpers would be roaming the streets asking more than front row seats at a Springsteen concert.

Thus far about 20 to 30 Forum Fester's have said they'd be there...now that doesn't constitute a mob....but there are weeks ahead for this thing to snowball....so let's get with it...this Mini Fest is gonna' be fun!!!

Pepper,
One couldn't have a better way to get a new season going than with all their best friends from the Winni forum. Myself and family are very hopeful to be able to attend this great affair with such a great bunch of people.

Well it's ABOUT TIME you showed your screenname around here!!!!!! I miss you and B and the girls, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing all of you again soon!

RLW - Indeed, who could possibly ask for a better "kickoff" to a season! This is amazing!!!! and for the record, I'm extremely grateful to all who are showing us their support!

Hermit Cover - I imagine our parking area will likely overflow if all these folks show up at once! Perhaps I'd better start making arrangements for some alternative parking!

If only it wasn't a Thusday (? 3/25/06 ?). I'm just guessing here, but I'll say it's a fair bet the there'll be plenty-o-parking at the Weirs, all you need is a shuttle bus. Then again, and I'm thinking of mcdude's horseboats here, perhaps you could hire some rock bass to tow some people from the Weirs to your locale. All you'll need is a barge, mebbe even a small rowboat, and some harnesses. I hear they (the rock bass union) will work for .... scale ...

Ok Mac....enough of the Kaluha...Today Sunday is the 12th, meaning yesterday (Sat) was the 11th, making next Saturday the 18th (going to the Bruins game with my son that day) and thus two weeks hence would be the 25th, still a Saturday. Of course, your antique 1906 calendar with the picture of the Horseboat might have the 25th as a Thursday. Anyway, give the keys to Mee (not me, but I would be glad to drive you if necessary), tell her the date, and when she tells you to get in the car, get in the car and say "Yes Dear". It will be good practice for you.

(Ok, Mee, we just figured it out...you didn't get Mac back to the home soon enough, did you?)

And Mac, here's a link to a calendar that seems to be pretty accurate as to what day of the week is what date...

Talking Southern Gulf

I had a long talk with Winnie and Peasaukee last week when I found them playing in the Southern Gulf. They were swimming with a large Pod of 30 Dolphins. It was quite a sight as they circled my boat and did air dances.
Since W & P are still playing here, they will not be able to make your PepperFest. They do say Hi to all and want Pepper to save some lobster until May when they will do the great swim north.

Default Lobster 101....

Wikipedia tells us these things about the lobster....

They are animals, Arthropods, Crustaceans, Decapods and belong to the family Nephropidae.

Lobsters live in rocky, sandy,or muddy bottoms from the shoreline beyond the edge of the continental shelf. They are scavengers but also eat live fish, algae and eel-grass. Occasionally they will eat other lobsters, too.

An average adult weighs 1 1/2 to 2 lb. and is 9 inches long. The Guinness World Record for lobsters is 44.4 pounds and was caught in Nova Scotia.

Lobsters molt (shed their shells) 2-3 times per year while young, but only once a year or less when fully mature, about 4 to 7 years. After molting, the lobster, with their new soft shells, are very vulnerable and often fall prey to other lobsters and large fish like cod. Many lobsters live to be 50 years old.

The first pair of the lobster's 10 legs are claws and are used for hunting and fighting. The other eight legs are used for walking.

Lobsters are generally solitary animals.....they only share a burrow for love making.

Lobsters have a greenish or brownish organ called the "tomalley" that acts as a liver and pancreas-----a toxin filter.

But, is all this information important???? And how does this stuff about lobsters relate to Saturday's Mini Forum Fest at Pepper's. Here goes......

What I and many others really want to know is, "How does one make a lobster......ROLL??"

You take the tail, bend it down to the tip of the nose of the lobster, tuck in the claws, and then give a mighty shove...It's a long way from the seacost to Weirs Blvd.

Of course, we could pack a bunch up in crates, put them in a box car, and let our resident engineer McDude bring them over on the railroad...all aboard, McDude????

From "In Ancient Times" by FLboater
"Since Peasukee controlled the land, air and water, he caused a great upheaval of the land so that he could live with Winnie. The upheaval caused the McDude River to change course and not connect with the lake. Therefore Winnie could not return to the Atlantic by the way she came. The lake water to flow north of Peasukee’s mountain and Winnie did not know where the water went."
It's too bad that Pesaukee did that to the river because the Lobsters would have been able to swim to Waldo Peppers all by themselves .....and you know that the railroad isn't there anymore either. What about those land-locked lobstahs that arrived from the ocean with Winnie?

BTW FLboater...next time you see Winnie and Pesaukee would you ask them how they got to Florida with the mcdude river being closed and all?

I'm sure Pepper will have plenty of lobsters. Regretfully, I won't be able to join you all that day but don't let that stop you from having a good time!

I'll stop in and see you, Pepper, when all of these other throngs of people aren't around and I can get my hug (s) (s)... with no interruptions!

Have a great time! McD

From Chapter 5 of In Ancient Times
"At the end of summer, many returned to the south via the Merri River which was formed by the “Great upheaval”. Others stayed long enough to watch the trees change their colored coats. After getting their direction from the many birds that circled Winnie’s island, these neighbors would then go south by land and water. They became known as “snow birds”. They went to a sandy land called Florida and played on the water all winter. Some years the cousin of Peasaukee would cause great southern storms which cause the dwellers of Florida to run or hide until the storms passed. Other “snow birds” were forced to stay longer by the Great Spirits Smile until the great southern storms ended."

McDude, Guess you missed this chapter 5.

Today Winnie and Peasaukee were with me when we were visited by their friend Manny the Manatee. I did ask Manny if he was interested in going north with us and helping to eat the Milfoil. He answered that he didn't think the cold water would be good for him.

Please do take and post pics!

I'll be up in the area Friday but it will be a working/visit trip, my Dad (You might know him Pepper since he used to stop in just about every day during the season for lunch, "George") He's in a nursing home these days in Meredith, so I'll be visiting with him and my mom, then I have to start getting the condo ready for renters, so I don't think I'm even going to have time to drive past and toot! I work weekends sooo............

Airwaves - I've sent you a private message with a special note for you and your dad! We love your father and hope to see him very soon.

McDude - I'm crushed to learn that you will not be joining in the mini forum-fest, but am looking forward to having an uninterupted hug or two from you sometime soon!

rrr, BroadHopper and FLBoater - I'm sorry you three won't be able to join us in all the fun, but am certainly looking forward to seeing each of you over the summer as well.

Red face

Wishing all a very Happy Waldo Pepper's Forum Fest!!

Regretfully, I can not attend.
Went in for a physical while here in Dallas- Fort Worth, and they found high calcium in my blood. The doctor told me that he had made me an appointment in the Nuclear medicine clinic for a bone density scan. So I told him, while he was at it, to put me in for a ride in the centrafuge so that I could get my astronauts license when I got out.

Anyway, I can't get a release and have to stick around here incase they have to do more testing, and by the way, this is the first time that I have been on the working end of the wrench, If you get my drift

I am looking foward to seeing you all very soon.

Have a blast and get those photosPosted!!!!

Love,
T.
