Default Stop and Shop in Meredith?

Just heard a rumor that Stop and Shop Supermarkets may be building a store in Meredith. The shopping center where Brooks and Wardo's are now located has been sold and will be torn down or renovated.

That would be handy to stop by on my way to Moultonborough and I like a big store with good selection, but there's just something I really like about buying at Heaths in Center Harbor. I think it's the quaint, little, friendly neighborhood store that I like about it. If stores such as that do not get enough support the lakes region will be taken over by big chain stores and lose any feeling of community. Just my .02 cents.

Default Out of Business

I bet a Stop-n-Shop would put both Jackson Star in Merideth and Heath's in Center Harbor out of business.

I hope that Jackson Star and Heath's are not put out of business, but both could use a little competition. Heath's produce quality is variable, at best, although overall they are a nice store since the rennovation. Jackson Star is very expensive for some items. The Harvest store that was in the mall that Stop-n-Shop may go was never a big winner, but it will be nice to see that location grow again. If the SnS goes there, it could use a traffic light for those exiting the parking lot and headed east to M'boro.

Default Meridith Stop and Shop

No Please no not without some major traffic engineering revisions. You can not get thru Rt3 and 25 as it is on the busy days and they are getting to be busy days all summer. Getting off Pleasant street in Meredith to rte 25 from the neck is a flustercluck. Too much traffic.

I'm w/ you OFD. This year has featured some of the worst route 25 backups ever... in one case all the way back to the Moulton Farm on a Sunday afternoon. A big supermarket in that plaza would only exaserbate the problem. I love how we're always importing the conveniences of suburban life, only to ultimately suffer from even greater inconveniences.
