Anyone have any recommendations on someone to redo a driveway. It is pretty clear my existing driveway does not have an appropriate base as it is full of ruts and doesn't drain properly. I may want to pave it down the road so I want something that is going to be done right so I don't have to re-excavate it if I wanted to pave it. Thanks in advance.

I think poster wants dirt work. Gravel/stone base.
Brian Davis Construction. Out of Moultonborough. Has all the necessary equipment. Excavator, backhoe, dump truck, etc. PM me if you want telephone number. He knows his stuff. Any one of the dirt construction companies will do all. Ambrose - Meredith And a multitude of others. Just read the dump trucks going by. It IS a good idea to have proper base if you plan on paving later on. I did have my driveway paved. And I thought the gravel base was enough. But over 10 years - bumps arose because larger rocks were not removed. And one or two dips because base was not properly done. If you want your driveway pavement to last - the base is crucial. |

You are spot on with the base comment. Mine is not adequate and thus the driveway has settled in certain spots and doesn't drain properly. Appreciate the assistance.

I would avoid Bryant Paving. They repaved my driveway back in 2010. They admitted they used the wrong kind of asphalt but blamed it on their supplier. They promised to make good by resurfacing and sealing in the future but never followed through. I called them over a period of two years and never received a return call. I probably should have taken them to small claims court but never did. My driveway is breaking apart now. Find someone else to do your work.

Well, an unacceptable experience is something to consider. But I imagine there are similar experiences now and then with all paving companies. Don't expect perfection; it doesn't exist. One data point doesn't define a trend. I used Bryant for my driveway, and I think they did a fine job of it. But I imagine the other bidder could have done a fine job also. One doesn't get to being one of the major paving contractors in an area by botching a lot of jobs and not learning from past mistakes.

Porter Paving did some driveway work at my house today and I was very very pleased with both their price and quality of work. They also showed up when they were supposed to!!
Porter is out of Franklin, NH. Dan

Porter has done two jobs for me. Both jobs were great, nice crew and showed up on time.

Any thoughts on GMI Asphalt? I saw a post from a while ago and it seemed very positive toward them. Anyone used them recently? Thanks

Asphalt calculation. Here is a handy little tool for you to give yourself a guesstimate of what your driveway should cost.
Figure out your driveways dimensions. So for example 12'x60'= 720 sf convert to square yards so /9 = 80 square yards. Now multiple by . 057 this is how much one square yard one inch thick weighs in tons. So 4.56 tons so for a typical 3 inch this driveway multiply by thickness 13.68 tons of Asphalt, you will pay a premium for low tonnage like this right now. Probably between 120-220 bucks per ton. |

I believe Greg sold GMI a couple of years back. From what I understand he started another paving business that specializes in smaller work (and may still do small job contract work for GMI)
