Unfortunately we haven't been to the lake in a month or so, was wondering if the new Hannafords in Gilford has opened? If not are they getting close to opening?

I believe that the sign says Sat Nov 12th for the grand opening.
Or maybe a not-so-grand opening as it is supposed to be a smaller store. |

The Gilford store is going to be a little bigger than the current store up on the hill, and it's going to be bigger than the Meredith store by a good amount.

Thanks for the link. From my reading of that post it explains that the new store will have about the same display space as the old store on the hill. The store on the hill may have more space, but it has never used that extra space for display hence the new store will be as big, or bigger than the one on the hill as far as shopping floor space for the consumer & bigger than the Meredith store. Yes....the overall footprint at the new store has been lowered, but not the actual display space as opposed to the old store.
BTW I like the size of the Hannafords store in Gilford & will like the size of the new one.....the Shaw's store across the street & the Shaw's stores in general are too big for my taste. Last edited by Irish mist; 11-06-2011 at 01:14 AM. |

It seems Hannaford's is hoping to balance the cost of their new store on the backs of holiday bakers. Has anyone noticed how the cost of their spices has risen recently? Just in time for holiday baking. A friend pointed this out to me today. She went to purchase a small container of ground cloves and found the price to be $7.99. She refused to pay that much and found the same brand and size at Market Basket for $2.99. She priced it at Walmart in Plymouth and it was $3.?? there. Quite a vast difference in price. What an outrageous ripoff! She said the same thing happened last year when the price of nutmeg at Hannaford's went through the roof around the holiday season. It seems this is a yearly gouging on their part. Merry Christmas! I don't believe she checked the price at Shaw's, but perhaps someone on the forum has done so and might give us a report.

I buy all my spices at the Dollar Tree in Somersworth. Everything is a $1.00 even the cinnamon. Also the ice cream bars

My wife was checking out as new app on her cell phone that allowed her to compare prices. Big lots came up as the cheapest and it was a boxed food item.
FYI AA batteries are a lot cheaper at Lowes then at Wal-Mart. |

I find that, in addiiton to purchasing my Polar Diet Orange Dry soda - to which I am addicted - the prices for spices at Ocean State are really good. You never want to buy a huge container of any spice (like the sizes at BJ's) unless you are a restaurant. The spices lose their "freshness" after a while, especially spices that are already ground, like cinnamon.

The sale flyer for this week shows that the Christmas Tree Shoppe has the spices on sale 3 for $2. I usually stock up on parsley, cinnamon & red pepper flakes. The containers in Costco are too big for home cooking needs.

It should be noted that discount stores like Big Lots and other similar stores sell leftover, overstacked and the like products.I would assume that spices sold in these places would be in the old catagory and thats why they bought them.FWIW

If you can't make the Saturday Grand Opening, you could get up early Sunday and get yourself a free Collapsible Colander. ![]() FLL, I'm shocked you haven't posted this already... maybe trying to cut down on the competition? ![]()

While Hannaford's as a rule doesn't offer free courtesy cups of hot coffee at any of their lakes regions stores, the Gilford-Lowe's freebie coffee in the cheapie foam cups is very close by at the Lowe's second entrance just across from the pizza restaurant whose name I cannot remember.
Figures that a Belgium owned food store like (Louis) Delhaize Group's Hannaford food chain with some 2600 stores www.delhaizegroup.com world-wide would need a Lowe's next store to go score a freebie hot coffee ........... bottoms up to the Lowe's next door! ... ![]()

We got there at 6:50 am this morning; the lot was full and it looked like the line went around the side of the store. It appeared that we were at least 1/2 hour late to be in the 1st 300 so we passed by and made a quick stop in Lowe's. Then we went over to Shaw's, held our noses, and went in for the milk and eggs we needed today, will try the new Hannafords maybe in Monday.
As we went by the new Hannaford store at 7:30 am it looked like there were still about 100 in line to get in. Probably the fire dept approved store capacity had been reached. |

![]() I got there at about 6.30 am the parking lot was full and the line wrapped all the way to the loading dock ramps. They did open a little early, and the line moved fairly quickly. They did run out of the "Gift Cards" before we got I got in, but they did hand out $5 off coupons that are good until 12/30/2011. Store is very nice, "feels" larger than the old Hannafords. They also added a couple of those "self checkout" lanes, that are good when you just have a few items.

I checked out the price of the ground cloves at the old Hannaford's last week and it had risen from $7.99 to $8.19. I wonder when that jar of cloves crossed the street, if it added a few more cents to its cash register? Ka-ching, Ka-ching!
