Seasoned Cord Wood 2011

I know there are a number of older threads on this subject, but I'm looking for several cords of seasoned wood for delivery in Gilford this fall.

My usual guy went way up on his prices this year. I know the people at Miracle Farms deliver on pallets.. (very cool) but I don't think they deliver to this side of the lake.

Steve, I paid $60 more per cord (green) this season. I also know that gas is up $1.00+ over last year, and I am sure that diesel is as well. The equipment he uses at the site, to haul the logs back to the shop, and the shop equipment are all not what would be called fuel efficient.

I get five cords per year from the same guy, and if his costs go down, his cord price will go down as well. I stay with him through thick and thin, and he likewise with his customers.

Don't know how long you have been with this guy, but he may not be out of line.

From what I've heard your looking at over $300 a cord for seasoned.
Why not save some and buy it green a year ahead and store it.
I buy it log length in Maine and it still averages just over $100 a cord.
I use about 3 a year in Maine and 3-4 here where I drop, cut & split it myself.
Good luck and FYI the later you wait the more the prices tend to go up.

I always purchase mine in March or April and let it sit for 2 or 3 months and then stack it. I burns fantastic when it is needed during the winter and most of the time I get my choice of the type of wood I want such as all oak by ordering it early.

Upthesaukee, where in hell do you get the energy to stack all that wood out in the drive. I get tired just looking at it when I go by.

I don't know if $245 a cord is good or not, I don't burn wood but the below ad on craigslist is selling it for that.

I bought one of those Gorilla wagons a few years back at Tractor Supply. It says it holds 1000 pounds and I’ve probably had all of that on it anyways.
I bring it to the splitter and as I split the wood I just put it right into the wagon and then transfer it to where I’m stacking it on pallets. Last spring it cut split and stacked 2 cords (as measured) in 12-14 hours at my house in Maine. I was sore from head to toe after that but it got done.
Someone once said the absolute best way to dry out wood is to leave it on a tarred driveway.
All that heat from the hot top really expedites drying.
It does makes sense.

Called them this AM and they delivered 2 cord early this afternoon. Great guy and he took the time to tell me about their operation. Kiln is on property

The wood they delivered sounds like a bowling pin when I drop it on the concrete garage floor. All hardwood 16"

$295 a cord delivered. Thanks for all of you that gave me info and advice.

Now I have to stack it... sigh!
