Exclamation Tuesday's Fierce Wind

We were promised 35 MPH winds, and it's all of that and more.

I was jarred to this realization when I heard a loud noise at the dock. It was too loud to have been a deck chair or falling ladder, so I investigated. It turned out that my boat had become dismasted! (That's the bad news).

The good news is that the broken shroud part will cost less than $15 to replace, and was the only damage -- except I have decided to call off my sailboating season, and store the mast on the dock. It needed some minor maintenance anyway.

Looking around, I see one blue/white I/O at a distant mooring with a partially-unsnapped cover snapping in the breeze. (Cover color: appliance white).

Better have a neighbor check on your boat if it's still in the water. It's fierce out there.

Sorry to hear about your mast damage. We took our sailboat out last week and we're glad it's not bouncing around on its mooring now.

I agree, it's very windy at the lake today. It's a gusty northwest wind, often dropping to about 10 mph and then picking up to 25 - 30 mph. We recorded a gust of 38 mph shortly after 9 A.M.

Even Alton Bay as far south as Sandy Point had whitecaps today. What a change from the great weekend we just had.

Default good question

Thanks, Rattlesnake gal. I don't have a clue yet. I've been told a boat will name itself once you have launched it. But I really don't want to wait that long! We'll think of something.
