I was at jazz-night last night when about 5:45, just 5 minutes after we parked the car a fire started in the engine of the car parked right next to us. It was a bit of excitement for all. The car was a total loss and thankfully I was able to move mine before the heat got into full swing.
BTW the dinner was great and the views and music could not have been better on a beautiful night. A big thank you to the Moultonborough FD! |

Any idea what type of a car, and what started the fire?
If the car was covered by an insurance policy, the insurance company could maybe try to get repaid by the car maker if the cause can be determined to be a manufactorer's defect like an electrical wiring defect recall, or something. Last I heard, the Castle in the Clouds is a Moultonborough non-profit and uses its non-profit status to exempt itself from local Moultonborough property taxes. This could mean that the fire department's service and drive up the mountain road to get to the fire is basically paid by the Moultonborough property tax payers who do pay their bills. Maybe I'm wrong on this, but that's what I read about the Castle and their tax exempt status.

Most non profits typically make payments in lieu of taxes. I am not sure if the LRCT does, I poked around on their site and did not see it mentioned.

It's unfortunate that those poor people lost their vehicle but we were all very happy that no one was injured and that the MFD responded as fast as they did, they got the fire out quickly and no other cars were damaged.

Not really sure. We were on our way in at the thime of the fire the staff had not located the owners yet. I did not hear any screams! So i guess the drinks that the owners had did the trick ![]() |
