Seems like there's always some story in the papers about the Alton selectmen, or police chief, or building inspector but never a peep about a crooked town clerk. You know there's a small number of town clerks from all over the state who have got caught for hav'n their hands in the town till. Maybe, that's why so many refer to their town clerk as the 'town crook,'.....there's just too much temptation with having to handle an occaisional cash payment for a car or trailer registration in the $50 to 200 range , or so.
Worst case scenario, the Ashland Town Clerk was convicted and did maybe a two or three year prison stretch about eight years ago. So, what's cook'n up, down in Alton? Sounds like it could be a good time for the local selectmen to convene into a non-public (i.e. private) meeting and do some damage control!
