Aha but we need some parameters here now don't we?

Like what exactly IS Ice-In. Is it when you can drive a snowmobile across the entire lake or is it when there is a skim coating over the whole lake.

That raises a question I have. When is the average time snowmobiling starts on the lake. I can recall years ago starting snowmobiling on the lake as early as the end of December. What does it take to lock up the lake in terms of temperatures for what duration?

Thanks

H-Nut

Island Girl - Rattlesnake Cam had an ice-in page most years but it did not start until Jan so it seems we are starting a little early.

As far as I'm concerned, any "official" ice in thread is started by Island Girl. It's been that way for years. She keeps a very good eye on things and starts a thread when we actually have something to look at. JMHO.

This is a very good question, I have often wondered myself.

I would think Ice-in would be defined by the Ports of call on the lake being iced to the point, that boat traffic can't proceed in and out. This definition would meant that Center Harbor, Meredith, The Wiers, Alton Wolfeboro, 19 mile, and Some portion of Moultonborogh Bay be iced in, to the point that boat traffic is prohibited.

Default Too warm

The water is still much to warm to start the watch.... usually about 36....35 degrees. Last winter it was about 5 degrees cooler on this day than it is this year. I will start the thread when the lake tells me to!!!!!

IG

There is, however, some skim ice in Alton Bay!!
