Thumbs up Lakeport Landmark saved by Dunkin' Donuts

Excerpt from the Union Leader of Thursday April 10:

A 1845 pink Victorian on Union Avenue was saved from demolition by an agreement announced yesterday between community leaders and developers of a new Dunkin' Donuts.
Several months ago the company announced plans to buy the 1.6 acre site across the street from the current Dunkin' Donuts in the Lakeport section of the city. It calls for construction of a new doughnut shop on the same site but in an area where there is currently a parking lot between the historic structure and Trustworthy Hardware. snip

[The original plan] ... called for the removal of the structure to build a new coffee shop.

I think Dunkins figured out that people won't go out of their way to buy their nasty assed product so they put them in your way. What happened to the DD where they had 52 varieties baked fresh at each shop? Now they truck them in from Mass. You can't get a creme filled anymore. Most everything has a glaze on it cuz "it stays fresher longer" to survive those long trips. Its truely sad when you can stand in one shops parking lot and see another DD sign down the street. And their spokesperson, that annoying Rachel Ray. The only voice more annoying than her is Paula Dean. "How cool is that?"
