With an intense low departing the area and a fairly stroung high moving in for the weekend, Friday will be a very windy day. Those with bob houses still on the lake may want to think about what they need to do to prevent damage.
I would think open areas will see 50 MPH gusts, maybe 55 MPH. The wind should drop off considerably Friday night and the weekend will have nice days with cold nights. R2B |

The computer models are in agreement, showing strong low pressure over the Canadian Maritimes tomorrow, which means we'll be hit with strong wind on its backside. This is today's storm (now ending) as it moves away. Winds are now calm but will be starting up from the northwest later today and gusts to 35 mph are possible this evening.
Winds will increase overnight and may gust over 50 mph tomorrow. Direction will be from the northwest. Fallen trees are a possibility as recent warmth, melting, and rain has softened up the ground in many places, which may allow for easy uprooting. In response to this, the National Weather Service in Gray Maine has issued a high wind watch for its entire coverage area (Most of NH and central Maine) for tomorrow. The watch will be upgraded to a warning if the threat of 50+ mph winds starts to materialize. |

Winds are now from the NW sustained at 13 with gusts running in the 30 mph range. There was a peak gust before midnight (officially yesterday's) of 40 mph and another to 39 mph a few minutes ago. These are increasing.
Lights have already flickered once since the wind kicked up around 10 pm. |

Windspeed reached 128.8 at about 11:30 this morning and is currently at 109.1. With a temperature of 5 below that puts the current wind chill at 48 below --- brrrr! And, its going get worse!

That's incredible. The Weather Channel has been mentioning Mt. Washington all day, despite the fact that there's plenty of damaging weather elsewhere in the country right now.
Today's peak gust at Black Cat has been 42 mph so far. I would imagine that out in the open lake, it is probably 55-60 mph. It's usually a lot faster beyond 200 feet from shore. |

At about 9:00 PM on Friday, March 21st, a wind gust of 148.5 MPH was recorded on the "rock pile". That is an impressive wind!
It looks like the wind is diminishing as the pressure gradient is beginning to flatten out. I am not at the lake, but in a Boston Hotel, so I do not know how high the winds got at the Weirs today. I am in Boston at the Hockey East Tournament. Tough night for UNH, but I have hope for them in the NCAA Regionals! Great Wildcats team this year. R2B |

Peak wind at Black Cat was 44 mph at 11:45 am yesterday. It still didn't beat the 51 mph that occurred on the 5th (which is the month and year peak so far).
Laconia Airport reported a peak of 39 mph which occurred a few times throughout the day. Breezy conditions persist across the lake today with winds gusting to around 30. |

Guess this can be closed now as it is Saturday nite and all we are getting is an occasional stiff breeze. The temp now at 7:44 PM is 28.8 in Alton on a large hill.
