Question "Monkey Pond" on Waukewan?

I read a Letter to the Editor in the Daily Sun a short while back which expressed concern over the Waukewan water quality. The writer cited the example of "Monkey Pond", the shallow water on the other side of the railroad tracks by Waukewan Beach, as an example of what he feared may happen to the water quality. I think that the water there is fine, but the tale of the naming of the Pond left me wondering! I don't recall the exact details of the letter, which mentioned that it had been named Monkey Pond after a circus train indicent that let a few animals loose! Does anyone know the rest of the tale, or what the rumor might be based on?
