Waaaaaaaay back in 2002, there was a film crew running around the Lakes Region filming a movie entitled, "The Color of Water" (I have no idea where they got that title). Some scenes were filmed at Castle in the Clouds. Some scenes were filmed at Weirs Beach. I kept waiting for it to be released in theaters. After four years, I gave up.
Last week, I discovered the film was released on DVD in 2009 under the title, "Love Don't Come Easy". So I put it on my NetFlix list and watched it today. Our heroine comes to the area on the Winnipesaukee Railroad and gets on the hero's boat at Weirs Beach. There are several exterior shots of Anchor Marine. The Interior shots may have been filmed elsewhere, but they answer the phone, "Anchor". There are exterior shots at Castle in the Clouds. I've never been inside Castle, so I don't know whether the interior shots were filmed there as well. All in all, only about five to seven minutes of Lake shots, mostly at the Weirs Beach piers. I've never considered myself to be a film critic, but, I think there's a reason the film was never in theaters. |

Did you happen to see a sumo wrestler outfit in the movie at all? I remember heading up there as a extra and they needed Halloween costumes for a party scene thery were doing in the Castle...so I grabbed my Dad's costume and headed up.

The Color of Water was a book I read many years ago, but I don't recall there being any lake or Lake Winnie scenes in it. My memory has obviously failed me.

Neither Winnipesaukee nor New Hampshire are ever mentioned. This movie could have taken place at/near any lake. Even the movie's opening scene, showing the skyline of a city, is not referenced. I only knew it was Boston because I saw the Citgo sign in Kenmore Square. |
