I thank you all for the information -- some really good stuff! We already bought a Briggs & Stratton 5500, gasoline of course, with (I think) 8 circuits. Bought it Saturday. We're definitely going to get it wired so we won't need those huge cords snaking through the house -- what a hazard those things are to a klutz like me! Yes, we need to start it but it'll run 11-12 hours on a tank, which isn't too bad.

My power in Kensington (just south of Exeter for those who don't know where it is) came on about 7:30 Tuesday night and went off again at 3:30 Wednesday morning; back on about noontime on Wednesday and so far so good. My mom, in Seabrook, just got hers back at 5:20 last night. There are still lots of people here without power; Unitil sure hasn't made any friends with their lack of response in the area and local town officials are questioning both that and the fact that the trucks haven't really been seen on the roads.
