Thanks for your recollections. I visited Omaha Beach (and Bayeux). It really deserves a second visit of greater duration. I've visited other places, as we all have (Lexington and Concors, Gettysburg, etc) but Normandy, as preserved by the French, is really history you can see and be touched.
