We had an entryway, hallway, bathroom, and study done with porcelain and are very happy with it. Tile has a hard surface that will stand up to having office chairs rolling over it on a daily basis where other types of flooring will not.

On the down side, tiles can break if something heavy is dropped on them. Be sure to order an extra box of tiles from the same color lot to have on hand to replace a broken tile if this should happen. Also, make sure you have an excellent installer. Ours was done by Tinker's in Wolfeboro. They were terrific, but sadly are no longer in business.

Depending on your situation, the surface of the tile could sit a little bit higher than the existing flooring in rooms that abut it. This could leave you with a really annoying raise ridge between rooms. BE SURE you clearly understand exactly how your installer will handle these transitions and watch to be sure that part is done correctly.
