There is a difference between factory installed satellite radio receiver and aftermarket added satellite radio. Some of the early aftermarket satellite radio add-on kits came with an antenna that is/was not the strongest.
I have an older aftermarket add-on in my other vehicle. A unit that I can take from car and take inside home and play. I had that older unit professionally installed in Phoenix, AZ for $30.00. Been using for many years. Operates perfectly driving cross country. Up here in hill and mountain country - yes, the signal does come and go on occasion.
