If your rails are standard 1 1/4” they will fit fine. My Bennington has a very slightly larger rail due to its design and they squeeze over it pretty good. No problems when the fender is being “smooshed” as you say.
. They are not made to be used when underway. As far as loosening up, again they are made to be taken on and off when docking, they are not designed to be permanent.
They work very and I am happy with them.
