Depends somewhat on where the pick up point is.
We've used Island Support Service with good success (603)293 HELP. Last one was a new refrigerator. They pick up at Gilford Lowe's, delivered to Welch Island, and installed, including a waterline for the ice-maker. I have no idea whether they used a boat or a barge (probably boat). One stop shopping. We call them and when we show up next, the work is done. They pick the day when the seas are calm.
We have carried huge amounts of furniture, appliances, building materials, machinery, etc. on the back of a variety of boats. The larger problem is manpower to load and unload at either end. If you're paying an hourly rate for a barge, you don't want them sitting while you take time to load/unload.
