I've got an old picture of a Loon struggling with a 2-pound Bass.
Not built to cut into its fish prey, most of its attacking was by
stabbing at the prey. I watched patiently for a very long time, but never saw the meal disappear.
On another occasion, a Loon popped up a foot from my canoe, with a 1-pound Bass.
On most other encounters, Loons pop up directly in front of my sailboat.
Most of the time, Loons will dive when seeing my sailboat, but you'd think
while submerged, Loons could see a boat approaching from only a few feet away.
