Dropped my temperature probe in Merrymeeting a little while ago. The reading was a consistent 38 degrees. But as others are noting, I think we are looking at a quick and relatively early ice-in this year.

Ice is already forming on structures along the shoreline, the ground at the waters edge is frozen, and there are few moments above freezing in the 10-day forecast.

We drove from Manchester today and saw many smaller lakes and ponds, even near Manchester, solidly frozen. Half Moon Lake in Alton looked to be completely covered in a thick layer.

Even the Merrymeeting Marsh and River at the Alton Circle is largely skimmed over, despite the movement.

It won't be long.
