In 1991 I was living in Atkinson, NH and finishing my basement. One night I went to get some fresh air and went out the basement slider and there just a few feet away from me was a large Moose.

I looked up said "Hi" and it grunted and turned away and went into the woods. Quite tall especially when it is only 6 or 7 feet away from you.
It was mating season and they can be tempermental during that time so I was lucky it did not charge me.
This Moose had been heard out in the woods for a few days prior. I had heard it crashing around and through the brush as it wandered. There is a brook and large marsh 100' or so through the woods.
