Then yes the Subbie is a good buy. You should be able to find one with less mileage than that! 250K is doable as long as you keep up with the maintenance. Personally, I would look at the Mazda CX5, love the sports car feeling when driving. Other SUVs feel like an elephant on roller skates!
As with most AWD, front-wheel drives, the front axle boots rot around 150K is common and expensive! Another common repair with the new high-efficiency motors is head gaskets. Other than that, common maintenance items such as brakes, tires, oil filters, etc.
Personally, I am a wagon man. And a manual at that! Was on the market for a year for MB wagon, Audi Avant, or Volvo V60 cross country. Just bought a 2014 allroad with manual and sport package. Had it shipped from San Francisco. 30K on the clock and never been in salt!
