I noticed just after this post that "battery storage" is listed, so I wonder what they're currently using.

A friend of mine owns an island in Maine, and they use propane for everything—lights, cooking, heat, etc. They pull the tanks and firewood, etc. across the ice in winter.

Beyond the inconvenience of winter work, their concern is fire, so they're looking at moving to solar with battery storage.
