Speaking of eagles and bodies of water, the photo below shows one year of activity of several eagles in the middle east. They really cover a lot of distance but I thought it was interesting that they completely avoided flying over the water. One of the comments in
this article says that it is because there are no rising warm air currents over the water but it still seems odd that they would choose to fly such long distances to avoid a relatively short flight over the water.
