With motorcycling, that thinking is called "wishful," and perhaps a "no-brainer." When a skier falls, he's more apt to slide to a stop over something slippery. When a cyclist falls, he's going to windmill for sure, whacking limbs and cranium on something hard, non-slippery, and unyielding with every turn. Anyway, skiers don't mind the helmet, perhaps because that inch of foam keeps the head very warm, a big plus for wearing it. It also may keep the goggles in place better than a knit hat.
