Living on the east side of the lake, I've found that using the gust numbers rather than the average wind speed gives me a better indication of what to expect for the day.
That's the one I've been using with real time reports that often differ from what I'm looking at from my dock. Most recent was last week where the report was 9mph, but the water was perfectly flat
