Sounds like you took the correct course of action to keep your GF happy!

Just so you know, many many many campgrounds throughout New England and beyond have seen bears. We have camped all over NH, and I would say that at least 75% of the campgrounds have given us warnings when checking in. However, I have yet to see one. In fact, I have seen more bears at home (one) than I have camping (none).
