In the Real World it goes more like.
Dial 911, while your explaining to a 911 operator what the emergency is, they then have to connect you to a local police dispatcher to whom you will explain again what the emergency is, in the mean time your cars are being destroyed and your belongings stolen. By the time the police actually arrive, the thieves are long gone and you will never see your stuff again.
Unfortunate but true. Very seldom will the police ever be close enough to get to the crime while it is still under way.
