Fossil-fuel scientists sift through miles-deep earth cores to detect lifeforms, and can date them within a few million years. (
Plus those cores bereft of lifeforms--consistent with extremely low temperatures).
Official Government thermometers have been faithfully recording temperatures for a century as cities, asphalt parking lots, highways, and airports have altered the weather around them.
