It all comes down to how much towing you are going to do. If you plan to tow every weekend then spend the money and get something big to to that right. If you only going to tow to the lake at the beginning of the season and a home at the end then a little extra wear and tear shouldn't be an issue. Obviously never tow with a vehicle that is unsafe for the duty.

Actually, for a seasonal tow I would avoid owning a tow vehicle at all. Paying the huge gas mileage penalty for a big V8 every day for the couple times a year you need to have it, seems costly. Just have a marina store the boat for you and avoid towing.
