I don't understand what the big deal is mentioning that one of the candidates for Gov happens to live on the lake? Good grief it's a legit discussion point, not like anyone is endorsing Mr Havenstein. I don't see any political angle to this at all IMHO.
For the record historically the lakes region has been a draw for both political and famous figures and life seems to go on without to much interruption. I see no reason to think otherwise if we happen to have a Gov that has a place on the lake. I do think that had Romney become president that would have been a slightly different story and probably why that was a much more entertaining discussion.
