Not to mention it's practically impossible to predict a battery's end of life. In fact, last fall, when the temps changed quickly within a few days, my Escape battery--only four years old--crapped out without a warning.
For $50-60, it's cheap insurance while also being able to charge phones, etc. in an outage, on bus trips, camping, etc.
