The entire D.W. Highway in South Nashua has turned into a shopping center and a traffic nightmare.
If my memory serves me correctly the Route 3 highway By Pass opened in 1969 and the D.W. Highway transformation began.

I remember the turkey farm but not A&W, though my parents used to talk all the time about the drive-in one in Dracut. And agreed about DW Highway--I still miss Shakey's.
That being said, it's easy to see through rose-colored glasses. Though I'd be hard pressed to say things are "better" today, life in "my" area--northern MA to Moultonborough--is still pretty awesome.
